Setting up for 2023
It's been a busy first week back in Vermont, but we're laying the foundations for a productive year ahead.
Water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink
It's been just under two weeks since we arrived at our Airbnb in Rome - time is flying fast! But not everything has been plain sailing this week.
Hello from Europe!
Did you miss us? It's been a little while, and a lot has happened. Not least we're now thousands of miles away from Vermont in Europe! Let's catch you up.
Winter plans 2022
After a hectic year bringing in utilities and developing our site, we're ready for a break. This year we've set our sights a little further afield!
We have electricity!
We've been excitedly waiting for the time when our electrical service would be installed and we'd finally have power - this was the week.
After six months in one spot, it was finally time to hookup the RV again, but this time our journey was a little shorter than usual!
Breaking ground... and machines!
We've well and truly broken ground now, hitting some major milestones but also breaking some things along the way.
After a couple of hectic weeks of final preparation, this week we had our first glimpse of what lies beneath the surface on our property.
Change of Plans
After a lot of consideration, we decided to part ways with our architects. Since then, everything has been turned upside down...in a good way!
Oops! We did it again...
Between our travel trailer, equipment trailer and portable sawmill we're no strangers to towing, and this week we added another trailer to our collection!
New Tool DayTable Saw & Planer
We visited the Rockler store in Salem, NH to pick up some exciting new tools - a Sawstop Jobsite Table Saw and Dewalt DW735X planer.
Preparing to Plant
Our projected final frost date is fast approaching so we've been planning this year's gardening projects and getting things ready to plant.
Even though we're still clearing trees for our house site, this week I've been working on installing a roof!
Eggstra Special Update
We continue to make progress with clearing the site, found time to make our first ever homemade maple syrup and traded for some fresh local eggs.
First Campfire of 2022
Yes, it's March. And we're in Vermont. And it might have only been 45°F (7°C) on Monday evening but that didn't stop us having our first campfire of 2022.
Getting into the swing
We've been back in Vermont just over 2 weeks so the honeymoon is over and now it's time to get to work - building projects and felling trees!
It's that time of year again - mud season! As all the accumulate snow and frozen ground melts, everything turns to mud!
Snowboarding... on our driveway!
Our 1,000ft driveway was covered with a foot of fresh snow so there was just one question - could we snowboard down it? Only one way to find out!
Returning to Vermont
In just a few days we'll be towing our RV from Virginia back up to Vermont, hoping to arrive before the snow melts and turns the roads to mud!
